I’m thinking of a new experiment I’d like to run, and since I’m an idiot obsessed with boxes I had to give it a name: “Ambush Gardens”.
The name is a play on “Guerrilla Gardens“, and the idea is a sort of ritualistic overnight campout on land we don’t legally own, followed by the planting of a garden in the ashes of our campfire.
I like the idea for several reasons. One: it’s a good excuse to get outside, stretch our legs and lungs and have fun with Mother Nature. Two: we get to assert our rejection of the Terror-based Title System that benefits the rich at the expense of the poor. Three: free food pops out of the ground a few months later, and we can perform another Ambush to reap what we sowed. Four: it seems easy to mimic. It’s very cheap; for the price of entry fee to a state park we can buy all the seeds and supplies for an Ambush. Minimal knowledge and skills are required, it’s low risk and seems like a lot of fun (to me at least).
I think we should focus on drought tolerant plants and vegetables that don’t need much attention at first. Eventually we could expand the concept to Ambush Aquaponics, where we fill an above ground pool with rainwater, introduce fish and use the poopy water to irrigate our plants with some kind of passive siphon drip hose.
The strategy seems scalable and repeatable, and if we continuously ambush garden the same area using the principles of permaculture we slowly could turn unused land into a food forest, while simultaneously demonstrating our power to reject stupid laws and forming strong bonds of friendship with fellow Free Folk.
If we Ambush Garden somewhere without receiving notice* that we’re trespassing, it’s not even illegal.
*(Laws vary by location, but for Texas this includes: verbal notice of trespassing, posted signs, a fence, or purple paint on trees).
